  • Do racing thoughts leave you feeling overwhelmed?

  • Do you have panic attack symptoms, such as nausea or a racing heart?

  • Do intrusive thoughts or constant worries keep you up at night, keep you from being productive at work and prevent you from living the life you want?

  • Do you want to get off the “hamster wheel” of an anxious mind and regain control of your thoughts and the ability to enjoy your daily life?

Why is anxiety important in our lives?

Science shows that a modest level of anxiety is necessary to help us meet our goals or finish important tasks. We all feel nervous or worried at times, and this anxiety can be a helpful feeling when it motivates us or warns us of danger. An anxiety disorder, on the other hand, causes unexpected or unhelpful anxiety that seriously impacts our lives, including how we think, feel, and act.

What contributes to anxiety?

A variety of factors contribute to anxiety, including situational stressors such as:

  • Relationship dissatisfaction

  • Work or financial stressors

  • Family or personal illness/loss

How do we treat anxiety?

Anxiety treatment helps reduce worries and accompanying symptoms. The goal of therapy is to help you focus on what you have control over: yourself and your thoughts.  Therapy helps you to identify strategies to regain control of your anxious thoughts and helps you to strengthen your inner resilience so that you can discover greater confidence and live your best life possible. Since managing intrusive thoughts and fears can be overwhelming in isolation, learning how to deal with anxiety is easier if you have someone to help along the way. Through anxiety treatment with a skilled, understanding therapist such as myself, many people not only find relief from their panic attack symptoms, but they also obtain valuable insights and strategies to thrive. There are various types of therapies that are used to treat anxiety, but the most effective form is CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Why should you choose me to help you treat your anxiety?

  • As an anxiety “thriver”, I have first-hand experience of, and am intimately familiar with, the challenges of dealing with anxiety. Having faced and successfully overcome my own, often debilitating issues with anxiety, I know what it takes to overcome worries and to thrive.

  • In addition to my personal experience with anxiety, I have helped hundreds of clients to successfully manage their anxiety through my 15 years of experience as a licensed psychologist and my 6 years of experience as an Employee Assistance Program counsellor.

  • As a cognitive behavioural therapist, I believe that anyone can learn how to deal with anxiety, and that with practice, everyone can diminish their intrusive thoughts and live a peaceful, serene life.

  • My goals are to work with you to:

    • help you become more self-reflective

    • help you shift the way you view and think about yourself when under stress and how you react to stressful situations

    • empower you by giving you practical and sustainable skills, strategies and tools that will help you to manage your anxiety

    • help you identify and harness your strengths to manage your anxiety

    • guide you in building your resiliency

    • foster self-accountability

My ultimate aim is that you experience greater agency, empowerment and a worry free life.

You might still have questions or concerns about therapy…

I’ve tried therapy, and it doesn’t work.

It can be frustrating to try anxiety treatment and achieve few or no results. However, my unique, practical approach is specifically geared to help you recognize and deal with situations that cause you anxiety. Additionally, being born and living under apartheid, I know first-hand what it’s like to live in an anxiety-inducing environment. After developing a positive mindset to manage my own anxiety even in the most challenging circumstances and spending 15 years successfully helping others do the same, I’m confident that my anxiety therapy can give you a fresh start.

Subsidised Therapy.

As a licenced psychologist, my services are eligible for coverage by most extended healthcare benefit plans. (Please verify eligible thresholds with your extended health benefits provider).  Therapy is far cheaper than most other options (such as prescription medications), has no side-effects and is very sustainable.

Does going to anxiety therapy means something’s wrong with me?

Every person has a human right to feel good and to be happy, and anxiety counselling is an important step in putting yourself first and investing in your well being for the long term. While it’s true that people go to therapy for help, this doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them. In the same way that it’s necessary to go to the doctor when your physical health needs support, it can be necessary to see a therapist when your mental health needs support. Seeing a therapist for treating anxiety is simply an important investment in yourself and in maintaining your overall health.
